Rummy rules

Rummy is a card game for 2 players. It is played with two card sets per 52 cards plus 6 joker cards. Joker cards can be used to substitute for missing cards, for forming a group or a sequence. Before the start of the play a certain point number is agreed. That player him this number in the course of the play crosses, loses.

At the beginning of the Rummy game every player receives 13 cards. The aim of the play is to file all cards in the field middle. The play expiry consists in the fact that the player who is in the train removes first a card. Besides, he can select whether he takes a concealed card of the deck or the card thrown away last. If the player has proved card combinations, the groups or sequences, he has the possibility to lay them out. Afterwards the player throws, no matter whether he has laid out now or not, one of his cards on the filing pile. Then its the other players turn.

A group exists of several (at least 3), e.g., three 10's, or four aces Play cards of the same rank. Indeed, no card may be used twice in Rummy. Hence, laying out is not possible, e.g., from clubs 10, clubs 10 and diamonds 10.

A sequence in Rummy is a result of several, climbing up cards of the same colour, e.g., diamonds 8, diamonds 9, diamonds 10 or clubs 10, clubs jack, clubs lady. An ace can be put on in the lower one as well as at the upper end. Indeed, it is to be laid out forbidden king, ace and 2. This will lay as „around the corner“ called.

A player can lay out only if the interpretation exists of at least 3 cards. Moreover, at least 2 these cards may be no joker cards. Thus one may not lay out, e.g., ace, joker, joker, because one can say in this case not unambiguously whether it himself around a group or a sequence acts.

For the first time of laying out the player needs at least 30 points. If he owns, e.g., three 7's so it is not possible to him to lay out, because these only 21 points prove. If a player has 30 points, he can lay out the suitable group / sequence. The cards are put on in the middle of the field. Now every player who has laid out already once has the possibility, suitable cards to lying the groups in the middle and sequences. If a player or one himself has laid out e.g. cross 7, cross 8 and cross 9, that the player who holds the cross 10 in this cards is able to lay down this one as well. Afterwards one could still put on cross jack etc., however, is to be noted with groups that a card may not be used twice.

Rummy HINT: If in the field middle a group or a sequence is laid out which contains a joker, a player can get this joker. For it he needs the card for which the joker substitutes. If the player lays this missing card in addition, he receives the joker.

As soon as a player has laid out all cards, the play is finished on filing the last card. Afterwards the Rummy points are calculated. All those cards which the opponent still holds in his hand count as bad points. If a player with his bad points crosses the point number agreed at the beginning, the opponent wins.

Rummy Point Evaluation

During the Rummy game the cards have the following points:
  • Face cards are worth 10 points
  • Aces count 1 or 11 points, depending on whether they are put on in the lower or at the upper end of a group or sequence
  • All remaining cards own the value which is indicated on them
  • Jokers have the value of the card for which they substitute

If the Rummy game has finished, the points of the players are calculated as follows:

  • Face cards count 10 points
  • Aces count 15 points
  • Jokers count 30 points
  • All remaining cards own the value which is indicated on them
If a player all cards succeeds in laying out all at once, the bad points of the opponent are twice counted. This is called "Hand-smooth".
